Places to Visit

If you want a day away from the fishing on your doorstep, there are a wide range of options available to you within a short drive.

The Coast

Hornsea

The popular seaside town of Hornsea is a short drive away. Hornsea offers everything you would expect from a small seaside town, including a long sandy beach perfect for walks. You can also explore Hornsea Mere, Yorkshire’s largest freshwater lake, offering tranquil waters for boating and excellent birdwatching opportunities. For a spot of retail therapy, Hornsea Freeport is also nearby.

Bridlington

For those looking for more hustle and bustle, Bridlington is a vibrant seaside town. Famous for its crabbing, Bridlington boasts boat trips, fairground rides, a charming land train, arcades, cafes, and so much more. A trip to the East Coast isn’t truly complete without visiting Bridlington. While there, consider a visit to Sewerby Hall & Gardens, a beautiful historic house with stunning clifftop views, extensive gardens, and a popular mini zoo, just a short drive from Bridlington’s centre.

Bempton Cliffs

If you prefer nature to the bustle of the prom, then Bempton Cliffs is for you. This stunning cliffside location gives you breathtaking views of one of the UK’s largest populations of seabirds. See the puffins, gannets, kittiwakes, guillemots, and much more swooping, diving, fishing, and nesting.

Inland

Beverley

Beverley is a charming market town with a big personality. Often described as a smaller York, it boasts an impressive Minster, independent shops, and delightful cafes, but without the larger crowds. It’s the perfect place for an afternoon relaxing, shopping, or exploring the magnificent Beverley Minster.

Burton Constable

This grand country estate from the 16th Century offers a fascinating glimpse into history. With a magnificent house, beautiful parklands, and more to explore, it would make an excellent afternoon’s diversion from the lakes.

Hull

A little further afield is the vibrant city of Hull. The former UK City of Culture offers much to explore, including The Deep, one of the UK’s best aquariums housed in an iconic waterside building. Hull also has a large number of museums (including maritime and art galleries), diverse shops, numerous restaurants, and a bustling regenerated waterfront.
